Darryl Maximilian Robinson Encourages Theatre Lovers To Vote For The Culver City Public Theatre Revival Production of THE FRONT PAGE Through December 31st!
ON THE WEST COAST, theatregoers have seen veteran and award-winning Chicago-born and stage-trained actor Darryl Maximilian Robinson appear in numerous roles onstage during his 14 years as a City of Angels thespian. He has garnered critical praise for his performances as Major-General Stanley in "The Pirates of Penzance," District Attorney Flint in "Night of January 16th," Booker T. Washington in "Ragtime," Butler John Lawless in "The Happiest Millionaire" and Henry Albertson in "The Fantasticks." But usually he has performed his work in small and intimate venues. However, this past summer, he shared his talents in a somewhat larger forum.
Darryl Maximilian Robinson, who received both a 1997 Chicago Joseph Jefferson Citation Award for Outstanding Actor In A Principal Role In A Play and a 1997 Chicago Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award nomination for Best Leading Actor In A Play for his critically-praised performance as Sam Semela in The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago revival of Athol Fugard's "Master Harold And The Boys" presented at the much-missed Heartland Cafe Studio Theatre of Rogers Park, recently appeared in the comedic supporting role of Chicago Tribune Newspaper Reporter Roy V. Bensinger in The Culver City Public Theatre of Culver City, California 2024 revival of Ben Hecht's and Charles MacArthur's 1928 hit Broadway stage comedy "The Front Page," which, in this new script adaptation by skilled CCPT Director Trace Oakley and staged outdoors in Culver City's Carlson Memorial Park, has been blended with Hollywood screwball comedy scriptwriter Charles Lederer's 1940 screenplay of "His Girl Friday."
Onscreen, the role of Roy V. Bensinger was played to great effect by the noted 1930s and 1940s veteran film comedy actor, the late, great Edward Everett Horton, who was a standout in the 1931 Oscar-nominated Best Picture version of "The Front Page." The role has proven a fine part for comedic players in multiple stage and screen renditions of the work since that time.
For his work in this new 2024 CCPT production, Darryl Maximilian Robinson has now received a new and much appreciated acting award honor: a 2024 Broadwayworld Los Angeles Award nomination for Best Supporting Performer In A Play for THE FRONT PAGE.
Now, LA Stage Veteran Darryl Maximilian Robinson Encourages Los Angeles Theatre Lovers To VOTE FOR "THE FRONT PAGE" THROUGH DECEMBER 31ST!
