2022 Making The World Happening Award Winner And Four-Time Chicao Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award Nominee Darryl Maximilian Robinson Salutes And Congratulates All The Talented And Gifted Nominees And Deserving Tomorrow Night's Winners of the 28th Annual Chicago Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Awards!
Theatre Lovers And Supporters, tomorrow evening will be a special evening for local and regional African-American Theatre Artists who bring their professional skills and crafts to so many portions of The Greater Chicagoland Area.
BTAA's 2021-2022 performing arts season in the Chicagoland area totaled 57 produced and presented shows that have been reviewed by The Black Theater Alliance Awards, Inc.
Productions from the reviewed and judged group by a theatre-seasoned BTAA panel became eligible for awards in 31 BTAA nominated categories, and ultimately, 148 BTAA nominees.
Local theatre companies, playwrights, actors, actresses, solo performers, non-resident artists, directors, musical directors, choreographers, designers, technicians have all been nominated for their fine work in Chicago Theatre.
The recipients in all categories will be announced at The 28th Annual Black Theater Alliance/Ira Aldridge Awards on Tuesday, October 4, 2022 at Columbia College Chicago in The Conaway Center, located at 1104 South Wabash Avenue in Chicago, IL.
The BTA Awards is a business attire event. There will be a reception at 7pm followed by The 28th Annual Black Theater Alliance/Ira Aldridge Awards from 8pm to 10pm.
As a recent 2022 Making The World Happening Award Winner for numerous online theatre-related offerings at Allevents.in and a previous, four-time Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award Nominee ( Including a 1997 Chicago Black Theatre Alliance/ Ira Aldridge Award nomination for Best Leading Actor In A Play and a 1997 Chicago Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award nomination for Best Sound Design for The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago revival staging of Athol Fugard's "Master Harold And The Boys" and a 1999 Chicago Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award nomination for Best Direction of An Ensemble for the ESC's revival staging of Athol Fugard's "The Blood Knot" both mounted at The Heartland Cafe Studio Theatre in the Windy City's Rogers Park neighborhood as well as a 2001 Chicago Black Theatre Alliance / Ira Aldridge Award nomination for Best Direction Of A Theatrical Production - The Lloyd Richards Award for his ESC revival staging of LeRoi Jones' "The Dutchman" staged at The Harrison Street Galleries Studio Theatre of Oak Park, Illinois ) and one-time BTAA Ceremony Presenter, Your Humble Servant In The Theatre, Darryl Maximilian Robinson extends his heartfelt congratulations to those members of the African-American Performing Arts Community who have earned this wonderful recognition of their work.

Williams and the entire staff and team of the BTAA, Inc. for 28 years of honoring the best and brightest of African-American artists who add to this city by creating quality and memorable Theatre!
Founder, Artistic Director and Producer of both the multiracial chamber theatres, The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago and The Excaliber Shakespeare Company Los Angeles Archival Project, Darryl Maximilian Robinson has become noted as the very first black actor in American Theatre History to portray on stage a trio of classic dramatic roles including: Sir Thomas More in Robert Bolt's "A Man For All Seasons" ( in a 1984 revival presented by The University Players of The University of Missouri-St. Louis and directed by AEA Member John Grassilli at The Benton Hall Theater ); King Henry II in a 1992 multiracial cast revival of James Goldman's "The Lion In Winter ( directed by Mr. Robinson for his chamber theatre Excaliber Productions, Ltd in St. Louis and staged at The Wabash Triangle Cafe ); and Andrew Wyke ( opposite the talented actor Sean Nix as Milo Tindle ) in a 2000, 30th Anniversary, all-black cast revival of Anthony Shaffer's "Sleuth" presented under Mr. Robinson's direction by his chamber theatre The Excaliber Shakespeare Company of Chicago at The Harrison Street Galleries Studio Theatre of Oak Park, Illinois. A nearly 50-year veteran of the stage, most recently, Darryl Maximilian Robinson was named a winner of a 2022 Making The World Happening Award for his numerous online theatre-related offerings at Allevents.in during the early years of the Covid-19 pandemic.
